How to Make Bags From Old Clothes
How to Make Bags from Old Clothes
Turning a tee How to Make Bags from Old Clothes into a stylish bag is an eco-friendly and creative way to refresh your wardrobe. This project from upcycling brand FROMSTOCK uses the signature look of a tee, including its color, print and material to create a unique bag that’s both functional and stylish. The bag features an interior front pocket, zipper and stylish handles made from an old belt.
To start, you’ll need a piece of fabric that’s twice the height of your desired bag plus 1 inch (2.5 cm) for side seam allowances. The fabric also needs to be a sturdy, woven fabric like cotton or linen. For the handle or strap, you can use a contrasting strip of fabric to add a pop of color and extra strength.

Next, cut out the sleeves from the tee. This step is optional, but it’s a good idea if you want the finished bag to be perfectly symmetrical. You can also fold the sleeve edges back and sew them together to make the top edge of the bag.
When you’re done, iron the creased edges of the fabric so they’re nice and flat. Now it’s time to get sewing! You’ll need a straight stitch for woven fabrics and a zigzag stitch for stretchy materials. Be sure to leave a 1-inch gap between the two horizontal lines that you’ve sewed, or you won’t be able to insert your drawstring. Once you’re done sewing, you’ll have a bag that’s both durable and stylish.
